De Rotterdam was built on the Wilhelmina Pier, in the heart of the Rotterdam port area, and it was from this very spot that tens of thousands of Europeans emigrated to America with the Holland America Line between 1873 and 1973. The name of this project therefore takes its name from the Holland America Line flagship, De Rotterdam. The building is part of the transformation of the pier into an area for living and working.

De Rotterdam

De Rotterdam was built on the Wilhelmina Pier, in the heart of the Rotterdam port area, and it was from this very spot that tens of thousands of Europeans emigrated to America with the Holland America Line between 1873 and 1973. The name of this project therefore takes its name from the Holland America Line flagship, De Rotterdam.

The building is part of the transformation of the pier into an area for living and working. It is like a vertical city with a mix of different functions in one building: homes, offices, conference rooms, a hotel, shops, restaurants and cafés, leisure facilities, and an underground car park. So the building is ‘alive’ 24 hours a day. After many years of planning, the construction of one of Holland’s largest buildings started at the end of 2009.

Location

‘De Rotterdam’ is located at the bustling ‘Kop van Zuid’ with many famous landmarks including the Montevideo building, Las Palmas, the Maastoren, the Cruise Terminal, Hotel New York, the Luxor theatre, and the New Orleans residential tower. The pier is also home to a wide variety of high-quality restaurants and bars. By combining functions: residential, business, hotel and restaurants, we can say this is a truly dynamic place in the city.

With the construction of other residential towers nearby, the number of residents in Kop van Zuid has increased considerably in recent years. Currently Kop van Zuid has more than 1,115 residents. These residents are relatively well-educated and are among the higher earners.

‘De Rotterdam’ is located at a very strategic and highly sought-after part in the city. Residents can park in the building’s underground car park. Trams, taxis and water taxis, busses and the metro offer frequent services and are all easily accessible. Rotterdam Central Station and Rotterdam The Hague Airport are easy and quick to reach.

Route

By car

From all directions, take the Rotterdam Ring, via Ring A16 (east) to Exit 24, Feijenoord and take the Laan op Zuid to the Wilhelmina Pier Complex (WPC). Alternative routes for those familiar with Rotterdam: via the Maasboulevard or the centre, and then cross the river via the Erasmusbrug.

At the traffic lights in front of ‘De Kuip’ stadium turn right, follow Feijenoord/H St. Clara, and then Kop van Zuid/Maasbruggen and finally, Erasmusbrug. You are now on the Laan op Zuid. Note: speed cameras are in operation here! Continue on Laan op Zuid until you get to the Erasmusbrug. Do not cross the bridge, but go straight across the junction (follow the sign to Wilhelminapier) past the KPN Telecom building. You are now on the Wilhelminakade.
